In July I did a very scary thing and left my beloved position as Program Director at Computers4Kids after 6 years of working with some of the best students, volunteers, and mentors in this community.
This fall I have been continuing my work with the youth of this area, and am ready to announce my new venture, Building Experiences. Having worked with Charlottesville youth I have observed that there are many great organizations working with high school students to get them prepared for college and life after school, however after graduation, many have gotten lost.
There are so many barriers to being successful after high school. Remember how confused and overwhelmed you were at 18, 19, 20? But you might have had a clearly defined trajectory that gave you structure. Or there was a stable home to return to. Or you had a strong network of extended friends to support you. Many of the deserving youth I work with do not have those things.
The mission of Building Experiences is this: To support young adults to have successful college, work and life experiences through goal setting, coaching, referrals, networking, and community building.
Please visit the website at BuildingExperiences.Org to find out more about our programming and how to get involved.
Like us on Facebook, and Plan to attend a community dinner at the Blue Moon Diner on a Monday evening in December.
I have seen this hole for a long time!!! this is wonderful that someone is finally doing something about it! Let me know if you are ever hiring, or need volunteers.
